No matter if you are running a tablet or a PC that has installed the Windows operating system, before upgrading the OS to Windows 7, you must know if your device is ready to meet the technical requirements that are needed by this system in order to perform properly all the tasks that it is asked to. Imagine that you run a professional or a business computer and you experience a crash in the moment you need the computer at most.

The HP Slate 500 is positioned for businesses, with many professional doctors and nurses taking notice of it’s light and portable nature and excellent note-taking abilities. One such community is the Spiceworks IT community, where some of it’s members got an HP Slate for use in their medical field and shared their opinions of the device.

The HP Slate has come forward as being a terrific note-taking device for students and professionals alike. One of the main advantage the HP Slate has over it’s current crop of competitors is it’s ability to run Microsoft’s preferred notation application One Note. In the video after the break we head into a demo with the most common usage for anyone using the slate; waking from sleep and taking notes with the built in handwriting recognition in OneNote.

Even though HP has seemingly moved on to newer, shinier toys in the HP Touchpad tablet, all is not lost or forgotten with those early adopters of the pluckly little Windows 7 tablet device. Since we last posted at the HP Slates are finally arriving at lucky owner’s doorsteps, we’ve caught a nice review of one such unit posted at the C|Net user review site.

HP may have been among the companies that revealed a new media tablet during MWC 2011 (Mobile World Congress) but it definitely has more in store.
In fact, a certain tablet device intended for use in healthcare actually preceded the HP Touchpad, its name being the HP Slate 500.

After a rough intro, a few false starts, and some dashed hopes the HP Slate is really shipping to early adopter customers today.

What’s the best way to launch a competing slate product to knock down the mighty iPad? We’re not sure, but one thing we do know if not to have your early adopters wait nearly 3 months to get their hands on one.

HP’s Todd Bradley was on CNBC recently to talk about HP and their acquisition of Palm. Good ol’ “Loose Lips” Bradley not-so-coyly suggests that HP will “have a broad public set of announcements, broadly about the future of webOS and the breath of products that it’ll enable” for HP’ upcoming Feb. 9th event. This all but confirms the debut of HP’s webOS based Slate, the HP Palmpad. Check out the video after the break.

It was at CES 2010 that we got a first look at the HP Slate. Apple’s rumors of an iPad launch were undeniable, and what seemed like an effort to cut them off at the pass, Microsoft proudly trotted out the HP Slate, talking up the features and benefits of the Windows 7 os on a portable tablet device. It was presented without a solid launch date and price point of ”under $1000″. 11 months later the HP Slate finally launched, selling out for christmas and becoming a platform device for a future WebOS-based PalmPad.
So what does the future hold for Microsoft’s tablet-based OS stragety? Well, looks like Ballmer is warming up for an Act 2.

HP has already launched their Windows 7 Tablet PC, the HP Slate 500 –but it was only intended for enterprise consumers–. However when the HP Slate 500 a lot of people speculated that HP would only launch a Windows 7 tablet PC for the business/enterprise sector but save a Palm WebOS tablet for the average consumer, if you aren’t already aware HP during this past summer made a big move and acquired Palm.

As you can see from the screen shot below, HP has posted a 6 week delay on they newly minted HP Slate 500. Hewlett-Packard’s site claims it’s because of ”extraordinary demand“. No word from HP exactly how extraordinary this demand is (Anyone remember the JooJoo pad’s lackluster 90 sales?) but we’re guessing that this may be the real deal. Either that, or HP’s producing a limited run of the enterprise-headed Windows 7 variety and is biding their time until the webOS version finally launches. Regardless, you shouldn’t expect an HP Slate under the tree just yet, unless Santa and strong connections or HP retail channels or is quick on the eBay trigger. UPDATE: Engadget has more after the break.

Remember RIM’s quickly rushed announcement of the Blackberry Playbook? Remember the vague announcement of a release date being “sometime in 2011″ and no mention of price? Well two pieces of the Playbook puzzle just fell into place, sorta, with RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie telling a Korean news magazine today they plan to launch the tablet “in Q1″ with a “sub-$500″ pricepoint.

HP has introduced it’s new logo for future HP Palm branding, such as the HP Palmpad and future webOS printers, and it’s our contendor for most boring and obvious logo this year. . From now on, HP will be combining the HP and Palm logos in advertising as seen above, which is taken from the Palm Facebook page. The change reflects HP’s purchase of the embattled manufacturer and smart device platform developer earlier this summer. The new combined logo will also be prominently featured in packaging and documentation.

Palm HP is not willing to let webOS go quietly into the good night, fading into obscurity as many alternative OSes before it. HP’s has apparently picked up the webOS product and ran with it, continuing development on their bread and butter product and even expanding into things such as talbets and printers. But HP has still been pretty hush-hush on their current tablet plans, not even confirming or denying rumors of the Windows 7 slate leaks and what the progress is of their webOS project. Thats why it’s slightly bewidlering that HP would quietly release new details on their next generation OS webOS 2.0, making it’s debut on the new Palm Pre 2 in france.

One major gripe about the Windows 7 version of the HP Slate is that Windows 7 is not ready for slate and tablet market. 10 years after Microsoft pioneered the tablet PC concept, and it’s their very own software that is said by many journalists and consumers alike to be what was holding the tablet market back. Microsoft has since acknowledged that the coming slate market is not the tablet market they once envisioned, and has unveiled new plans to bring their Windows 7 operating system to more slate and tablet PCs.
